Samsung today introduced external monitors designed specifically for use with laptops and Samsung calls the lineup LapFit. Samsung says that normal LCD monitors sit higher than notebook displays making it impossible to use them in dual-display setup. To solve this problem the company has designed LCD displays that sit roughly at laptop level, so that it can be used as extended desktop. Additionally, Samsung uses USB for video connection, as the USB port is universally available on all the laptops.
Initially there will be two models in LapFit lineup, 19-inch LD190 G and 22-inch LD220G. They will have 16:9 aspect ratio, 1360 x 768 resolution and 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The displays will also feature USB ports for additional peripherals. Korea will be first to see the new display for around $167 for 19-inch model and $218 for 22-inch model. No information is available about when the LapFit displays will ship in other countries.
