Samsung today announced the ultra-fast Wireless USB chipset that measures 8mm x 8mm only. The new chips can transfer data at 120Mbps in real world test and it operates in 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz frequency range. That means a 700MB video file can be transferred in about a minute from a range of about 3 meters. The chipset uses 128-bit AES encryption and other security mechanisms to protect data while transferring.
The chipset is very power efficient and requires only 300mW of power to run at full throttle. The chipset has built-in ARM core, UWB (ultra wide-band) physical layer and memory controller providing a single chip solution for Wireless USB. According to Samsung, the high-performance chip will be used in devices like digital cameras, mobile phones, PMPs, wireless projectors, wireless hard drives, wireless displays and wireless speakers.
Samsung is currently sampling the System-on-Chip wireless USB solution and will start mass production in second quarter of 2009.
