Garmin nuvifone G60 that was based on company’s own operating system has been a big flop, which has prompted Garmin to join the Android camp. Garmin-Asus today announced two new smartphones nuvifone A50 and nuvifone M10, the first phone is based on Android OS and the second phone is Windows Mobile device.

The Android based nuvifone A50 will come with Garmin’s nuvi-based GPS navigation that offer preloaded maps data and doesn’t depend on cell network to download maps. The phone will have 3.5-inch screen, 3-megapixel camera, 4GB internal storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G support and microSD card slot. It will support all the new Android features like multitouch web browser, and voice recognition for search.

The nuvifone M10 has same hardware features as the A50, but comes with a lower quality resistive touchscreen, as Window Mobile OS doesn’t support capacitive touchscreen. The phone is based on Windows Mobile 6.5.3 offering slightly better touch interface. The M10 is already shipping in Taiwan and it should come to Europe in first half of 2010. The nuvifone A50 would ship in Q2 2010 worldwide.
