Sony Introduces W995 Flagship Walkman Phone with 8.1-Megapixel Camera

Sony started the Mobile World Congress by introducing their new flagship Walkman phone W995. The new phone comes with 2.6-inch QVGA scratch resistant screen, 8.1-megapixel camera, 118MB of onboard storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, A-GPS and 8GB M2 memory card in box. The phone features a built-in kick back stand for hands free video viewing.
On the software side the phone comes with new MediaGo technology that handles streaming media by automatically adjusting for screen size and bandwidth. It also has PlayNow audio and movie service that will be subscription-based service offering unlimited music and movie downloads to a PC from which the media can be uploaded to the W995.
Along with music and video, W995’s new 8.1-megapixel camera is the new head-turning feature. The camera will feature auto-focus, face detection and LED flash. The images taken from the camera can be directly transferred to many photo sharing websites using the 3G or WiFi connection on the phone.
The phone will come with quad-band GSM/EDGE and two versions of HSPA service 900/2100MHz for Europe and Asia, and 850/1900MHz for North America. The W995 will measure 3.8” x 1.9” x 0.6” and weigh 4.0 ounces. It will ship in Q2 2009 in selected markets and will come in three colors red, black and silver.
