Samsung unveiled three new touchscreen devices at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Omnia HD is the new flagship mobile phone for the company that will replace the original Omnia. The phone is also known as i8910 and is the first phone ever that can record as well as play 720p high definition video.
The Omnia HD features a brilliant 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 16 million colors and 960 x 540 resolution. The camera on the phone is 8-megapixel with support for autofocus, digital zoom, blink detection and smile detection. The phone is based on Windows Mobile but uses Samsung’s revamped TouchWiz 3D interface for easier interaction. Samsung Omnia HD will come with quad-band GSM/EDGE, tri-band HSPA, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and FM radio. The Omnia HD supports a laundry list of audio and video formats, and it comes with 8GB or 16GB onboard memory along with microSDHC card slot.
The other two phones BeatDJ and BeatDISC are both aimed at music lovers and have integrated Bang & Olufsen audio system that comes with amps to provide powerful and clear sound output from the cellphones. The AMOLED touchscreen on both the Beat phones has 400 x 240 resolution and can be used as virtual turntable in DJ scratch mode to add effects to tracks that can be saved later. The other features on the Beat phones are quad-band GSM, tri-band HSPA, 3-megapixel camera, WiFi Bluetooth and microSDHC card slot. The only feature that differentiates the two phones is that DISC has slide-out keypad and DJ is just a plain old touchscreen phone.
Samsung has yet not announced pricing or release dates for the phones.
