NEC Develops Chipset Capable of 16Gbps Data Transfer via USB 3.0Submitted by lalit on February 17, 2010 - 1:30pm.
NEC today announced they have developed a new chipset that could triple the speed of USB 3.0 standard. The new technology will allow peak data transfer speed of 16Gbps compared to 5Gbps offer by USB 3.0 standard currently. The 3.3 times increase in speed is achieved by adding a delay to the feedback signal that becomes linked to the data rate. According to NEC, by doing this interference at very high data transfer speed was decreased considerably, resulting in increased headroom for data transfer. NEC has yet not received approval for the new chipset from USB Implementers Forum. If they get the technology approved as a part of USB 3.0 standard, it would make USB 3.0 faster than Intel’s recently announced Light Peak technology that would offer over 10Gbps data transfer and would ship later this year.
