Apple has been working with Intel on the new Light Peak technology, which would bring 10Gbps data transfer speeds in both directions simultaneously. Intel hasn’t announced a release date for products based on the new technology, but it looks like Apple plans to use Light Peak technology soon in their upcoming products. CNET has heard from a source familiar with Apple’s plan that the company is working on adopting the new technology soon, but likely use a name other than Light Peak. As Light Peak supports different stands like USB, DisplayPort and Firewire, Apple can use just one Light Peak port to support various standards. No word on what Apple system will get the new Light Peak technology first, but we think that the upcoming MacBook Pro will be a good candidate.
