Every technology related website, blog or analyst have tried to predict when Apple will update its iMac desktop lineup since the MacBooks were updated in October. Initially, the rumors were that iMac refresh would come before Christmas for higher holiday sales. But nothing happened before Christmas, and then the news came that we will see the new iMacs at Macworld 2009. However, at Macworld Apple just launched updated 17-inch MacBook Pro, iWork 09 and iLife 09.

After Macworld, every other day websites and analysts have been predicting when Apple will release the new iMac. For example, today an image was leaked on various blog showing text that stated round about configuration for 20- and 24-inch iMac. Based on the image many blogs are saying that it’s the new marketing material for upcoming iMac that will use NVIDIA’s chipset and it will be released soon.

On the other hand, Kaufman Bros analyst Shaw Wu said Apple’s Mac business looks weak in the current quarter, and he isn’t expecting the line of iMacs to be refreshed until June, at the earliest. His guestimation is based on Intel’s lawsuit against NVIDIA, asking court to stop NVIDIA from producing chipsets that are compatible with any Intel processor that has integrated memory controller.

So now the question is what is going to happen, when are we going to see the new iMacs? And the answer is, no one knows. Our sources tell us that Apple is working on various desktop models, but none of them are ready to give a date for iMac release. Additionally, they say that by end of this month (which is already here) or early next month more information about Apple’s desktop plans will be revealed.

Our advise to all our readers who are planning to by any Apple desktop is wait don’t spend your money. We don’t know when Apple will release the new desktops, but we do know that present desktop lineup is outdated by Apple’s standards. And we don’t think Apple will keep it like that for long.
