Panasonic, Philips and Sony to Simplify Blu-ray Licensing

Steve Jobs was right when he called Blu-ray a “bag of hunt” back in October. But founders of Blu-ray Panasonic, Philips and Sony want to change that and are working to unify Blu-ray standard licensing, making it simpler to register for Blu-ray products.  The three companies are working to propose a one-stop-shop licensing company to handle all Blu-ray related products.
Under the new licensing deal royalties for Blu-ray products will also be decreased by 40 percent. Royalties to manufacture a Blu-ray player will come down to $9.50 from $14, also the license fees for Blu-ray software will be 11 cents for read-only disc, 12 cents for recordable disc and 15 cents for a rewritable disc more than 40 percent down from old licensing fees.
According to the three companies this will make licensing process for Blu-ray simpler, faster and cheaper, ultimately reducing the price of the Blu-ray products. My only question to Panasonic, Philips and Sony is why didn’t they think about this before?
