First 74-Day Sales Comparison Between Original iPhone, Droid and Nexus One Shows Nexus is a FlopSubmitted by lalit on March 16, 2010 - 7:22pm.
Apple’s first iPhone reached 1 million units sold in 74 days and hence Flurry has compared first 74 days sales of Motorola Droid and Google Nexus One with the original iPhone. As you can see in the chart above sales of Nexus One pales in comparison with original iPhone. However, the Droid just edged out original iPhone over the first 74 days. According to Flurry, there are three underlying reasons for slightly higher Droid sales. First is change in market since original iPhone launch almost 2.5 years back, second Verizon’s user base (89 million) is more than 40 percent large that AT&T’s user base (63.7 million) in 2007, and third Droid was launched during holiday season. We don’t understand why sales of Android phones like Droid and Nexus One are being compared to original iPhone that was launched 2.5 years ago and not to the iPhone 3G or 3GS launch. Original iPhone basically started the smartphone revolution and handsets like Droid and Nexus One were launched after smartphone market gained big momentum because of the original iPhone. We think that Droid and Nexus One should be compared to iPhone 3G or 3GS to get the correct perspective. And if we do that comparison Nexus One looks like a very big flop and Motorola Droid sales looks like average, as both the iPhone models sold 1 million units in less than 3 days.
