Dell’s CEO Michael Dell said in Taipei that the company is developing new smartphone lineup and is on schedule to release devices in line with its internal roadmap. It was believed that Dell was working on more than one smartphone models and the statement by Michael confirms it. Michael Dell didn’t provide any information about the devices or when devices are scheduled for release.

According to DigiTimes, sources at Taiwan handset makers believe, Windows Mobile OS will be platform of choice for Dell’s upcoming smartphone, but to differentiate their smartphone lineup Dell might consider Android based smartphones. Also, Foxconn Electronics has been helping Dell in development of its smartphone lineup.

We think Dell’s decision to add Android based phone to its smartphone lineup is motivated by decrease of market interest in Windows Mobile OS and almost stagnant development of Windows Mobile OS for past three years. Yesterday, one analyst also speculated that several carriers rejected Dell’s first prototype smartphone model, as it was too similar to designs that are already on market. Indicating even carriers are not interested in having too many Windows Mobile OS based smartphones in their lineup. So, Android smartphone OS is the platform which Dell will use to differentiate its smartphone lineup for other handset makers.
