Toshiba Introduces 750GB and 1TB Notebook Hard DrivesSubmitted by lalit on March 25, 2010 - 8:47am.
Toshiba today announced two additions to its 5,400 RPM line of 2.5-inch hard drives for notebooks. The first addition is 9.5mm high, two-platter MK7559GSXP hard drive that incorporated both the industry’s highest areal density and capacity at 750GB. And the second addition is 12.5mm high, three-platter Mkxx59GSM hard drives that offer 750GB and 1TB storage. To deliver industry leading storage capacities, Toshiba implemented Advanced Sector Format technology that uses 4K byte-per-sector formatting and improved error-correcting code functions, providing maximum data integrity and making efficient use of the storage surface area. The MK7559GSXP is the first 9.5mm high, 2.5-inch hard drive to offer more than 640GB storage. It achieves 750GB capacity by using platter with areal density of 541.4 G bit/inch, making it ideal for mobile applications. Both the MK7559GSXP and the MKxx59GSM HDDs incorporate Toshiba's "silent seek" technology, which makes every seek operation as quiet as an idling drive. These products also adhere to Toshiba's environmental initiatives in their use of power efficiency techniques and components that reduce reliance on harmful chemicals, materials and compounds. Toshiba's MKxx59GSM series and MK7559GSXP drives are scheduled to ship to PC manufacturers and distributors in the second and third quarters of 2010, respectively.
