While most companies have just started manufacturing flash memory chips based on 32nm process technology. Toshiba today revealed that they have invested 15 billion yen ($160 million) to build a test production line for advanced flash memory chips. The company has already ordered chip-making equipment from ASML to produce memory chips with circuitry widths of less than 25 nanometers.

As with every subsequent decrease in memory chip size, the sub 25-nm flash memory chips will also being increased storage, reduced power requirements and faster chips. Toshiba plans to start commercial production of NAND flash chips based on process technology in upper 20nm range in second half of 2010, and will bring chips based on lower 20nm process technology to the market in early 2012.
