RIM has posted record-breaking revenue results for fourth quarter that ended in February 2009. Their revenue jumped from $1.88 billion for same quarter last year to $3.46 billion this year. Profits rose 26 percent to $518.3 million compared to $412.5 million a year ago. RIM shipped record 7.8 million BlackBerry devices, which is over a million more than their previous record of 6.7 million last quarter. The company said it gained a net 3.9 million new BlackBerry subscriber accounts and almost half of the company’s BlackBerry accounts are now made up of consumers. “We are very pleased to report another record quarter with standout subscriber growth that speaks volumes about the early success and momentum of our new BlackBerry products,” Said RIM’s co-CEO Jim Balsillie. “RIM experienced an extraordinary year in fiscal 2009, shipping our 50 millionth BlackBerry smartphone and generating $11 billion in revenue. Looking ahead into fiscal 2010, we see exceptional opportunities for RIM and its partners to leverage the investments and success of the past year to continue growing market share and profitability.” Seeing RIM’s quarterly results and the growth in iPhone sales, it becomes very clear that even in these tough economic times smartphone market is growing exponentially. And with new devices coming from Apple, Palm and other cellphone makers the growth will continue in second half of 2009.
