Nokia today sent out invites to media houses for a press event on Tuesday, April 12th. The event will focus on Symbian based smartphones and will be held at 10:00AM in the morning. The invite states “ Discover what’s new with Symbian smartphones on April 12”.

Two things we don’t understand – one, why has Nokia planned to have a press event on the same day that HTC is holding an event in London. And second, does any care about what’s new with Symbian smartphones? Nokia has already announced that they will have Windows Phone 7 as their main smartphone OS later this year and will slowdown Symbian development. According to Nokia’s own estimate, Symbian would have gone the dodo’s way by 2013, meaning anyone who buys a Symbian based smartphone in 2011-12 will be using an outdated technology within one year.

Anyway, lets wait and see what Nokia announces on April 12th.
