Apple’s Browser and OS Market Share Continues to Increase in MarchSubmitted by lalit on April 6, 2009 - 4:47pm.
After seeing slight drop in February, Apple’s web browser and OS market share continued to increase in March 2009. According to latest statistics from Net Applications, Apple’s Mac OS X market share reached 9.77 percent, whereas iPhone OS reached 0.49 percent and iPod touch OS reached 0.11 percent. Windows market share continued to fall and it dropped from 88.41 percent in February to 88.14 percent in March. Linux market share reached 0.90 percent with some help from netbooks. In less than one year Apple has gained 2 percent increase in market share from around 7.6 percent in April 2008 to present 9.77 percent. With this continued rise it looks like Apple will break the 10 percent barrier in April. On the browser side Firefox, Safari and Chrome gained market share at the expense of Internet Explorer and Opera. Firefox captured 22.05 percent market share, while Chrome captured 1.23 percent. Apple’s Safari web browser gained 0.21 percent share and rose from 8.02 percent in February to 8.23 percent in March 2009. Internet Explorer dropped from 67.44 percent in February to 66.82 percent. IE has lost almost 10 percent market share in less than 18 months and it looks like this drop will continue, as the new IE 8 hasn’t received good reviews.
