HP Slate Video Highlights Features Lacking on iPadSubmitted by lalit on April 6, 2010 - 7:46am.
For Apple, iPad was yet another successful product launch, as the device sold more than 300,000 units in first 15 hours. This prompted HP to release video of their upcoming iPad like tablet called HP Slate. The video highlights features of Slate that are missing from the iPad, like webcam, USB port and SD card slot. HP shows Skype running on the tablet, a photo gallery application, iTunes, multitouch and video recording. Also, Engadget posted a slide from internal HP Slate presentation showing comparison between HP Slate and iPad. This is the first time detailed specifications and pricing for HP Slate have revealed. The Slate will come with 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 multitouch screen, 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 32GB or 64GB storage, VGA webcam, 3-megapixel camera, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth, optional 3G + GPS and SDXC card slot. The Slate will measure 9.21” x 5.70” x 0.57” and weigh 1.49 pounds. It will have 2-cell 30WHr battery for up to 5 hours battery life. The Windows 7 based tablet will be priced $549-$599. No word on ship date yet, but it should ship in second half of this year. The initial customer impressions of the iPad have been very positive because of the easy of use and snappy performance. HP has changed the UI quite a bit since the iPad was announce, but will a Windows 7 based tablet with Intel Atom processor be able to offer same kind of easy of use and snappy performance as the iPad is the big question.
