Garmin’s nuvifone have been a failure and hence Garmin-Asus have not only changed the name of their cellphone lineup, but also the operating system on the phones. T-Mobile announced today first Android powered Garmin-Asus smartphone called Garminfone. Like the nuvifone, Garminfone also offers fully integrated Garmin navigation experience with multiple positioning technologies and on-board maps. It provides driving, walking and public transportation navigation with voice and on-screen directions and automatic re-routing. The phone also shows real-time traffic, weather, estimated time of arrival and points of interest along the route. Garmin Voice Studio, an exclusive Android navigation application, allows customers to record custom voice directions from family and friends.

Hardware features of the phone are 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, 3-megapixel camera, quad-band GSM/EDGE, dual-band UMTS/HSPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and microSD card slot. Garminfone comes loaded with Google applications like full HTML browser, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Search by voice, Google Talk and access to Android Market. The phone measures 4.57” x 2.45” x 0.51” and weighs 4.8 ounces. It offers five hours of talk time and 10.4 days of standby time.

Garminfone will be available in US exclusively through T-Mobile later this quarter. No word on price yet. You can get more information about the Garminfone on T-Mobile’s website.
