RIM Announces BlackBerry Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G; Hands-on Video of Both the Handsets

Earlier this week, RIM announced their new BlackBerry Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G 9100 handset that will ship in May 2010. RIM calls the Bold 9650 a global smartphone for CDMA customers, as it features support for both 3G EVDO networks in North America and 3G HSPA/UMTS networks abroad. The 9650 comes with 2.44-inch 480 x 360 screen, full-QWERTY keypad, 512MB onboard storage, 3.2-megapixel camera, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth, GPS and microSD card slot. On the software side it has full HTML browser, BlackBerry Maps, BlackBerry Media Sync, BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry Mail and social networking support for Facebook, My Space and Flickr. It measures 4.4” x 2.4” x 0.56” and weighs 4.8 ounces with 1400 mAhr battery for 5 hours CDMA talk time.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G features 360 x 400 resolution screen, 3.2-megapixel camera, 624MHz processor, 256MB Flash memory, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and microSD card slot. Phone supports quad-band GSM/EGDE and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA. It comes with access to BlackBerry App World, BlackBerry Media Sync, BlackBerry email, messaging and social networking capabilities. The phone measures 4.25” x 1.96” x 0.52” and weighs 3.3 ounces with 1150 mAhr battery for 5.5 hours of 3G talk time. The 9100 will come in two models featuring 20-key condensed QWERTY keyboard or 14-key traditional phone keyboard in several colors.

No word on price yet. Sprint will launch BlackBerry Bold 9650 in May and Rogers will launch Pearl 3G in Canada in May. We have added hands on video of both the phones posted by Engadget below.
