Few days back, we saw in iMac teardown that Apple is using Intel’s unannounced Z68 chipset. Well, today Intel made the new Z68 Express chipset official along with new Intel Solid State Drive 311 series.

According to Intel, The Z68 chipset offers new overclocking and caching features for PC enthusiasts who want more control over their second-generation Intel Core processor based desktops.  The 20GB Intel 311 SSD is optimized for the new Intel Smart Response Technology caching feature in Z68, which helps speed boot times, application loads, and many other PC uses.

The new Intel Smart Response Technology, one of the main feature of Z68 chipset, implements storage I/O caching to provide users with faster response times by moving frequently used blocks of hard disk data to an SSD (like the 311 SSD), providing faster access to user data than the hard drive alone can provide.

Apple has already started using the new Z68 chipset in their iMac lineup launched earlier this month and many other PC makers are announcing systems based on the new chipset today.
