Two years back touchscreen phones were like Zune in MP3 player market, there were few, but most people didn’t care about them. However, all that changed when Apple launched the iPhone in 2007. Launch of iPhone not only benefited Apple, but also it competitors who introduced touchscreen phones around the same time.

Today, both LG and Samsung announced that they have shipped more than 20 million touchscreen handset. The number is significant because it shows that it’s not just Apple benefiting from rise in demand for touchscreen handset. Other cellphone makers like Samsung, LG and HTC are also getting a piece of touchscreen market.

Analysts have estimated that global touchscreen smartphone market will reach about 500 million by 2012. This clearly shows that the touchscreen phone market is here to stay and it will increase more than 500 percent in next three years.
