Adobe Flash Significantly Slows Down Browser on Android 2.2 (Froyo)Submitted by lalit on May 24, 2010 - 6:13pm.
Two main features of Android 2.2 OS according to Google are Flash support and superfast browser. Google claims Android is the only mobile operating system that supports full version of Flash 10.1 and it also has the fastest web browser about 2-4X faster than any mobile browser on the market. However, tests done by PocketNow show that the two main features can’t coexist, as enabling Flash player slows down the browser significantly. In the video above, PocketNow ran web browser speed tests on iPhone 3GS, HTC HD2 and Nexus One (flash enabled on Nexus). Both the iPhone and HD2 topped Nexus One with Android 2.2 in every test where Nexus’ browser required Flash. Also, Flash 10.1 player is still in beta and is quite buggy. In the second video below Flash is turned off on Nexus One and the new browser tops both the iPhone and HD2. But here also the performance is not 4X faster than other two operating systems. Another fact that should be considered is that both Nexus One and HTC HD2 were recently released handset featuring 1GHz Snapdragon processor compared to a year old iPhone 3GS featuring 600MHz processor. Apple will be updating the iPhone next month, which should even out the hardware specs to do the browser test again and find out real browser speed difference between the three operating systems.
