Garmin joined the Google Open Handset Alliance in December 2008 and said that they are planning to ship an Android based handset by end of 2009. But like its nuvifone, it looks like Garmin will be late again. Now the company says that it will ship the handset by March 2010. Garmin’s executives said that the phone could come bit earlier but the company is aiming for end of March next year.

Garmin announced nuvifone that would feature a custom OS almost two years back and it is yet not on the market. It was rumored that Garmin was having problems with the OS. And, hence Garmin partnered up with Asus for development of nuvifone smartphone. However, it looks like the OS troubles are still not over. As Garmin announced Windows Mobile OS based smartphone earlier this year and now the plans of Android based phone. It’s likely that Garmin will dump the nuvifone G60 along with custom OS and join the Android club like Motorola.
