Apple launched the third generation of iPhone handset today in eight countries including France, Germany, UK and US. Like its predecessors, the new iPhone 3G S was also well received with hundreds of people lining up to get the new handset. Apple’s flagship store in New York on 5th Avenue saw the biggest line exceeding more than five hundred customers waiting for the iPhone launch. Similar lines were also formed throughout the country at various AT&T and Apple stores for the new iPhone.

Though iPhone 3G S was not the most hyped mobile handset this year compared to Palm Pre, but the initial launch easily surpasses Palm Pre’s launch earlier this month. However, iPhone 3G S launch wasn’t able to match the mass hysteria created by iPhone 3G launch last year.

The new phone brings improved camera, video recording, voice control, magnetometer, faster processor and more memory. The iPhone 3G S is available via AT&T in US. The 16GB model is priced $199 and the 32GB model is priced $299 with two-year contract.
