Sony’s has introduced their new VAIO Z series laptop that has casing made out of ultra light carbon fiber and weighs just 1.2 Kg (2.64 pounds). The ultrathin laptop is just 16.65mm (0.65-inch), but still comes with standard voltage Intel Core i7 processor for maximum performance. Other features of the laptop are 13.1-inch (1600 x 900) screen, 2.7GHz Core i7 processor, 256GB SSD (Solid State Drive), up to 8GB RAM, HD webcam, WiFi, Bluetooth. The laptop features high-speed I/O data transfer based on the architecture codenamed ‘Light Peak’ that allows unique Power Media Dock to connect to the laptop via proprietary port, which can also be used with USB devices. Power Media Dock is a monolithic expansion module that features AMD Radeon HD graphics chip (1GB) and Blu-ray optical drive. The VAIO Z and Dock combined can manage up to four displays via HDMI and/or VGA output ports. The VAIO Z also has optional external ‘sheet battery’ that can increase the battery life of the laptop from 7 hours to 14 hours. Many more configuration options – including a full HD (1920 x 1080) display –are available exclusively via Sony Store online. The new Sony VAIO Z series laptop will be available from end of July 2011 with a starting price of $2,299.
