T-Mobile today announced that it has launched high speed HSPA+ 3G data service in 24 new markets, now covering over 85 million people in US. T-Mobile said that it is on track to bring HSPA+ service to 100 major metropolitan markets by end of the year. 24 new markets include Austin, El Paso, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Waco, TX; Baltimore, MD; Baton Rouge and Lafayette, LA; Birmingham, AL; Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Dayton, OH; Ft. Lauderdale and Jacksonville, FL; Greenville, SC; Honolulu, HI; Indianapolis, IN; Kansas City and St. Louis, MO; Milwaukee, WI; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; and Wichita, KS. Along with the HSPA+ service announcement, T-Mobile also introduced webConnect Rocket 2.0 USB modem that takes advantage of the new high-speed HSPA+ network. The webConnect Rocket 2.0 supports both Mac and Windows. T-Mobile also promised that later this summer they would launch smartphones capable of taking advantage of HSPA+ network, which could in theory offer 21Mbps download speed. All phones available today on T-Mobile network aren’t capable of reaching those speeds.
