Creative today introduced touchscreen Zii EGG and Plaszma platform for developers and OEMs. Creative says Zii EGG is world’s first handheld based on StemCell Computer technology developed by the company itself. The device features 3.5-inch 480 x 320 LCD screen, 10-point multi-touch display, 3D hardware graphics acceleration for OpenGL ES, 256MB Mobile DDR RAM, up to 32GB internal memory, front and rear facing cameras, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, Accelerometer and SD card slot.

The device is designed to be energy efficient, while being capable enough to support full HD (1080p) output via HDMI. It also comes with X-Fi audio processing engine for excellent audio output. Creative is marketing the Zii EGG to OEMs as blank slate, which OEMs can use to put their own software. The hardware with zero internal storage will cost $199 in bulk.

Along with Zii EGG, Creative is also showcasing the new Plaszma platform, an open development program based on Linux that gives developers the ability to design custom user interface and applications for the device. Creative claims that the platform is 100 percent market ready. The Zii EGG can also support Android OS allowing OEMs to produce Android based devices. Plaszma SDK starter kit is priced $399 and it includes a free 32GB Zii EGG. There is no indication that Creative plans to ship the device as its own.
