New Software That Would Let iPhone Access iTunes Libraries Over the AirSubmitted by lalit on August 7, 2008 - 1:51pm.
A patent application filed by Apple reveals new software that would allow iPhone and iPod touch users access to their home computer’s entire iTunes media library while on the go. The company notes that users who are out sometimes find themselves without access to some of their content, which is present on their computer. In the application, Apple says that in theory syncing only the metadata can eliminate the problem. Using the metadata, iPhone and iPods would contain virtual media items representing the media. User would select virtual media items for display or playback on their handhelds just as they would today, the iPhone or iPod would use a wired, WiFi or cellular connection to remotely access and retrieve the media items from a user’s home Mac or PC.
