Last month, when Indian government announced the $35 tablet many question if it was even possible to get components that cheap for a tablet, let alone manufacture one. Well the Indian government has put some of those doubts to rest by showing a working prototype of the tablet on NDTV’s tech show Gadget Guru. Indian union minister Kapil Sibal personally showed the device and promised a 2011 launch and a $35 price tag for universities and schools. The $35 tablet was running Android operating system and featured a resistive touchscreen, webcam, 2GB onboard memory, microSD card slot, USB and WiFi. Various technical institutions around India in collaboration with Indian government designed the motherboard for the tablet using open source technologies bringing down the cost. Though the tablet can’t be compared with devices like iPad, but for education market a $35 computer is unbeatable. Check out the video above to see the tablet in action.
