Apple today released iOS 4.0.2 software update fixing security vulnerability associated with viewing malicious PDF files. The update is available for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 2nd and 3rd generation and iPad (3.0.2 update).

In other Apple related news, Kara Swisher of WSJ is reporting that several sources have told her Apple is planning to hold its annual autumn event in mid-September. She says that Apple will announce music related products during the event. Also, Engadget is reporting that Apple will update Apple TV, which will feature 720p video output, A4 processor and iOS for just $99. The new device will bring apps and App Store support, and Apple will rename Apple TV to iTV.

On the Verizon iPhone front, John Gruber has posted that Apple is working on CDMA version of iPhone codenamed N92. He wrote, “It’s certainly not in production yet, and hasn’t reached DVT status (device verification test — like Gray Powell’s infamous stolen unit), but it is, a few little birdies claim, at EVT (engineering verification test). That’s one step below DVT, which is one step below production. So it’s right about where you’d think it would be if it were scheduled to go on sale in January.”
