Best Buy today announced that it will start selling the iPhone 3G at 970 Best Buy stores nationwide beginning September 7th.  Brian J. Dunn, president and chief operation officer, Best Buy said in the press release:
“The iPhone has changed the way people think about their mobile phones, and we are delighted to help more customers get their hands on this revolutionary product. Our Best Buy Mobile employee have the training and expertise to deliver the best experience possible for our customers – from the initial purchase through the life of their iPhones.”
UBS Equity Research has released a new report claiming that the impact of iPhones being sold in Best Buy locations will be minimal. UBS says that it will have positive effect but the increase will in fact be fairly insignificant.
In my opinion, this will be huge, because in Best Buy stores customers, who are not planning to buy an iPhone, will be able to compare the iPhone next to other phone like Verizon’s LG Voyager/Dare or Sprint’s Samsung Instinct. And like most reviewers, who have compared the iPhones with other phones, customers will clearly see that iPhone is not just a smartphone but its a complete platform and that would increase the iPhone sales further.
