Google Mobile Press Event Brings Just Two New Features Chrome-to-Phone Extension and Enhanced “Voice Actions”Submitted by lalit on August 13, 2010 - 3:27pm.
At mobile press event yesterday, Google introduced the new Chrome-to-Phone extension and enhanced “Voice Actions” in Voice Search for Android smartphones. The Chrome-to-Phone extension is designed for desktop Chrome browsers and when installed allows the user to send webpages, maps and phone numbers that they are look at on the desktop browser to their Android 2.2 device. You can download the extension from Google’s website. The video above clearly illustrates how the Chrome-to-Phone extension works. The second mobile feature that Google showed at the press event was enhanced Voice Action that have been added to Voice Search application. The new Voice Actions allow the users to send text message, browser web, play music, record note to self and even search businesses on Google using voice only. The video below shows the new Voice Search in action. Android 2.2 users can download the new Voice Search from Android Marketplace. The following voice actions are available on new Voice Search:
Google called a press conference to just introduce two new software features for Android. It looks Google is trying to generate buzz for every small thing they do on Android platform. It is comparable to Apple calling a press conference to introduce Remote app and Voice Control functions for iPhone (which they didn’t). We were hoping Google might talk in detail about Android 3, or Chrome OS, or at least show some new hardware, but the press event was for two small new features.
