The upcoming desktop chipset codenamed Ibex Peak that Intel will launch in 2009, for it Nehalem based processors, is expected to feature Intel Remote PC Assist Technology (RPAT). The technology will help PC vendors lower their warranty cost while increasing the operational efficiency.
RPAT will allow PC vendors to access the user computer over the Internet to diagnose and repair consumers PC problem. The technology will provide features like data backup, virus checkup and functions to search for system errors. This will reduce the number of computers that vendors have to ship out to technicians for repair. The Intel Connect Service will be used for transfer of encrypted data for customer protection.
