Canon today announced six new PowerShot compact digital cameras including G11, S90, SD980 IS, SD940 IS, SX20 IS and SX120 IS. The flagship G11 replaces the G10’s 14.7-megapixel sensor with a high sensitivity 10-megapixel CCD sensor. With the new sensor, Dual Anti-Noise System and Digic 4 image processor Canon claims 2-stop improvement over the G10. This improves image quality and low light shooting performance by reducing noise. The G11 also gets tilt and swivel LCD along with HDMI output. Other features on G11 are 5x optical zoom, 2.8-inch LCD screen, ISO range 80-3200, 640 x 480 movie recording, 1.1 fps continuous shooting mode, 11 shooting modes and 17 scene modes. The Canon G11 will ship in September for $499.

The second camera in the lineup is PowerShot S90, canon calls it compact photographers’ camera. It features a 28-105mm F2.0-4.9 stabilized lens with a control ring built around it that enables control of camera settings such as exposure compensation. Like G11 the S90 also features high sensitivity 10-megapixel sensor, Digic 4 image processor and Dual Anti-Noise system. The S90 comes with 3-inch LCD screen, 3.8x optical zoom, 9-point auto focus, ISO range of 80-3200, 1.9 fps continuous shooting mode, 9 shooting modes and 17 scene modes.

The SD980 IS is first Canon camera with touchscreen. It comes with 12.1-megapixel sensor, 3-inch PureColor II touchscreen, 5x optical zoom, 720p video recording, Digic 4 processor, 9-point autofocus with face detection, ISO range of 80-1600 and 20 shooting modes. The camera has new Touch AF mode that enables users to select objects or faces on the touch screen – which the camera tracks and automatically keeps in focus. The SD980 IS will ship in September for $329.

The second ultra compact camera that Canon announced today is SD940 IS – the slimmest wide-angle digital camera from Canon. Feature-wise the SD940 IS is almost similar to SD980 IS, except it loses touchscreen and comes with lower 4x optical zoom. The SD940 IS will also ship in September for $299.

Canon also added two super-zoom digital compact camera SX20 IS and SX120 IS to PowerShot lineup. The SX20 IS is a successor of SX10 IS. It features same 20X optical zoom and 2.5-inch vari-angle LCD, but adds 12.1-megapixel sensor, RAW support and 720p video recording. Other features on the camera are ISO range of 80-1600, 0.7fps continuous shooting, 13 shooting modes and 11 scene modes. It will also ship in September for $399.

The last camera in the lineup is PowerShot SX120 IS that features 10x optical zoom, 3-inch LCD screen and 10-megapixel sensor. Feature-wise it is almost similar to PowerShot SX20 IS, but it doesn’t support HD video recording. The SX120 IS will also ship in September for $249.
