VimpelCom to Launch iPhone in RussiaSubmitted by lalit on August 29, 2008 - 1:24pm.
Russia cellphone carrier VimpelCom has announced that it has reached an agreement with Apple to launch the iPhone 3G in Russia. It was previously reported that Apple was in talk with more than three carriers in Russia. But VimpelCom will be the first carrier in Russia to offer the device. VimpelCom has not announced an officially release date for the iPhone, however the company said that it will launch the device before end of this year. It is believed that Apple will also make deals with two other major cellphone carriers in Russia the Megafon and MTS. This will give three carriers right to sell iPhone in Russia. Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO had said earlier that deals with both Russian and Chinese carriers will be made before end of this year. Now China is the only major country without an iPhone deal in place.
