iPod touch Teardown Reveals Space for Camera and 802.11n ChipsetSubmitted by lalit on September 11, 2009 - 5:39pm.
Everyone was surprised on Wednesday when Apple announced new iPod touch without integrated camera. However, teardown of the new iPod touch done by ifixit reveals that Apple left in room for a camera at top of the device circuit. This gives legs to the theory that Apple decided to remove camera in last stages of device development. Another thing revealed by the teardown was that iPod touch uses Broadcom BCM4329FKUBG wireless chip that supports 802.11n WiFi standard. Even the new iPhone 3GS uses BCM4325 wireless chip that only supports 802.11 a/b/g. But it is very likely that 802.11n is not supported in software, as Apple doesn’t list it in tech specs of the new iPod touch. And like we have seen last year, the new iPod touch uses a faster ARM processor than its iPhone counterpart. The new touch come with Samsung 339S0075 ARM processor, whereas the iPhone 3GS comes with slightly slower Samsung 339S0073 ARM processor. You can check high-resolution photo of the teardown on iFixit’s website.
