Toshiba announced two new 1.8-inch hard drives with capacities up to 240GB, making the new drives the highest capacity 1.8-inch hard drives available today. The MKxx31GAL series hard drives will be available in 120GB single platter configuration and 240GB dual-platter configuration. The drives will use Parallel ATA interface for data transfer. They are made using the fourth-generation of perpendicular magnetic recording technology, giving the drives unmatched data density. While, increasing the data capacity, Toshiba has also decreased energy requirements for the drives to run, making the new drive more environmentally friendly. Toshiba has started shipping the drives and they should appear in PMPs and netbooks by this holiday season.
