Microsoft Airs “I’m a PC” Ad; How Desperate is Microsoft?

Microsoft has started phase two or three of their $300 million ad campaign. The new ad starts with a poor imitation of John Hodgman that says, “Hello, I’m a PC, and I’ve been made into a stereotype.” After that various people from different walks of life announce, “I’m a PC”. Microsoft has released three different versions of the ad online.
Microsoft has said since the ad campaign began last month that all ads are interconnected and one phase of the campaign will led to the other phase. I am not able to understand how the Mojave phase led to Bill Gates and Jerry phase and how that phase led to I’m a PC phase. I don’t see any connection, is Microsoft just throwing money and trying everything possible to get attention.
