Amazon has sent out invitation to various media houses for a press conference on September 28th in New York City at 10 AM. The invite simply says:

Please join us for an Amazon.com Press Conference, Wednesday, September 28 at 10:00 am EDT in New York City.

There are no images or any other indication on the invite about what the press event is for. Rumors are Amazon will introduce the much-rumored Amazon Kindle tablet at the event. The tablet will ship in Q4 2011 before the holiday season.
