Sony today launched the new AW series laptop that comes with an 18.4-inch screen and is designed as a desktop replacement product. Sony says that the laptop uses the same backlighting technique as its BRAVIA LCD televisions and will offer full HD 1080p resolution. The laptop is geared towards home entertainment as it features Blu-ray drive, 2.1 channel speaker, Dolby surround sound and HDMI video out.
The processing power comes from 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo T9600 processor and 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics card. Sony claims that the laptop is world’s first to use 128GB SSD and 500GB hard drive as RAID array to increase performance. The AW-series is shipping now in UK for £999 that around $1,750 for base configuration.
