Verizon Wireless and Google today announced a strategic partnership to promote Android platform. The partnership will aim to deliver leading edge mobile applications, services and devices. Both companies say that the agreement will offer consumers an array of products that combine the speed of Verizon Wireless 3G service with the flexibility of the Android mobile platform.

Under the agreement, Verizon and Google will devote substantial resources for creating, marketing and distributing products and services based on Android platform. Both the companies will co-develop several Android-based devices that will be pre-loaded with innovative applications from both parties as well as third-party developers. Verizon Wireless will start introduction of Android based handsets within next few weeks.

It will be interesting to see if Verizon gives Android platform the freedom that AT&T offers to iPhone platform. Verizon is known for strict limitations it puts on the devices that are offered with Verizon wireless service plans like no WiFi and application / content download only via Verizon services. Let wait and see if this partnership brings some freedom to Verizon Wireless customers.
