Apple Acknowledges Mac OS X Snow Leopard Data Loss Problem

An Apple representative today acknowledged to CNET that few Mac OS X users have suffered data loss when they log into guest account and then log back into their account. The representative said, “We are aware of the issue, which occurs only in extremely rare cases, and we are working on a fix.”

Few users have reported that when they log into their guest account on their Mac first and then they log into their regular account, all their data in the regular account is gone and the accounts are completely reset. Apple offers this as a feature in guest account where once a guest user logs out the guest account can be set to delete all data that was produced during that session. However, regular user data shouldn’t be deleted under the normal functioning of this feature.

We have tired few times to reproduce this problem on our Macs but nothing happened. We would advice all our readers to backup their data regularly, so that if such a problem occurs they can use the backup to restore their computer.
