While most of the general population has still not used a quad core processor, Tilera has introduced its latest generation of processor family that features 16 to 100 identical processor cores interconnected with Tilera’s iMesh on chip network. Each core (Tile) consists of a complete, full featured processor as well as L1 and L2 cache and non-blocking switch that connect the tiles into the mesh. Each core is capable of running full operating system, or, multiple cores taken together can run a multiprocessing OS like SMP Linux.

The Tile-Gx processors come with integrated set of memory and I/O controllers to reduce the size and deliver low-latency packet processing performance. The processors are programmed in ANSI standard C and C++ enabling developers to leverage their existing software investments.

Four processor configurations Tile-Gx100 (100 cores), Tile-Gx64 (64 cores) Tile-Gx36 (36 cores) and Tile-Gx16 (16 cores) will be available when the Tile-Gx processors ship in early 2011. The processors will have core frequency range of 1GHz to 1.5GHz and power efficiency of 10 to 55W for typical applications. The price will range between $400 to $1000 per processors.
