Largely, Intel has been the sole owner of the integrated notebook graphics market for past few years. But it looks like that is going to change, as NVIDIA’s new 9400M chipset is getting lot of attention. Two weeks back Apple announced that it would be switching from Intel’s chipset in all its notebooks to NVIDIA’s new chipset. Other notebook makers like Asus, Acer, HP and Dell have also announced their plans to launch notebooks based on the 9400M chipset. Notebook vendors believe that NVIDIA can grab 20 percent share among Intel CPU based notebook platforms.
Ujesh Desai, general manager of GeForce products at NVIDIA said that more than 10 notebooks based on 9400M chipset would be launched by end of 2008. Intel’s integrated graphics chipset have been known for their sluggish performance. The new 9400M offers 5X performance increase when compared to Intel’s 4500MHD integrated graphics, which is making notebook makers to flock around NVIDIA’s 9400M chipset.
