AU Optronics to Showcase Ultra-wide, 3D and OLED Display Technologies at FPD 2009Submitted by lalit on October 27, 2009 - 10:28am.
AU Optronics (AUO) will showcase new display technologies like 3D, in-cell touch panel, AMVA5, e-paper and OLED at FPD International 2009 in Yakohama Japan from October 28 to 30, 2009. AUO will have series of 3D displays ranging from 8-inch to 65-inch that does not require special glasses to watch 3D image and have wider viewing angle. AUO uses higher resolution panels and new pixel arrangement design to achieve this. AUO will also have a 65-inch 2D/3D mixed mode display that uses lenticular lens and has 4K by 2K resolution. Viewer will be able to switch between 3D and 2D just by flicking a switch. A 46-inch display model with same scenario lenticular technology will have real time multi-view system. AUO will introduce its ultra wide 58-inch TV display with 2.35:1 aspect ratio for use in high-end home theater setup. The display will have 2,560 x 1080 resolution and 120Hz frame rate. AUO will showcase two LED backlit TV panels that consume 50 percent less power and are more eco-friendly. The 65-inch model has 4K by 2K resolution, 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 256 zones LED local dimming. The display is just 7.9mm (0.31-inch) thick. The second 42-inch model has edge light LED local dimming and it is 10mm (0.39-inch) thick. AUO will start mass production of both the displays in first quarter of 2010. The next generation AMVA5 technology that AUO has developed will offer true 16,000:1 intrinsic static contrast ratio with bump-less pixel design, optimized color resist, backlight structure and optical film for LCD screen. Along with the big displays, AUO will also exhibit a 3.2-inch memory in pixel (MIP) panel that has two display modes. In normal mode, it presents 230ppi high-resolution screen with hundreds of colors, and in MIP mode it presents 8-color image and consumers very low power. The screen is aimed at mobile phones where MIP mode can be used in standby. On the OLED side, AUO will introduce 14-inch OLED panel for use in TV. The panel will have full HD resolution, 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 16 million colors. AUO will start mass production of OLED panel in first quarter of 2010.
