Samsung is showcasing new AMOLED displays at FPD International 2009 in Japan. Samsung showed it first 30-inch 3D AMOLED TV that uses stereoscopic 3D technology and shutter glasses technology to reduce the dizziness felt by 3D viewer. The display is just 2.5mm thick, but it has million-to-1 contrast ratio and Full HD 1080p support.

Along with the large 30-inch panel Samsung also showcased a medium sized 14-inch AMOLED panel for notebooks. The prototype device that was running the 14-inch panel was called “hybrid desktop notebook”. The 2.7mm thick screen had 1,366 x 768 resolution, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 300cd/m2 brightness.

On the smaller side, Samsung showed off a 7-inch AMOLED netbook with same screen specifications as the 14-inch AMOLED panel. The company also showed a 3.5-inch curved AMOLED screen with WVGA resolution and million-to-one contrast ratio. In addition to the usual AMOLEDs, Samsung introduced their first transparent OLED panel. The 2-inch OLED panel is intended for use in cellphones and it has 30 percent transmittance. The resolution on the panel is 176 x 220 with 144 pixel-per-inch (ppi).

Samsung will start mass production of most of these AMOLED panels except the 30-inch 3D panel in 2010.
