At Creative’s annual meeting, the company announced that it would also be joining the e-reader race. However, their new device will be more than plan old e-book reader. Creative announced that they would launch MediaBook next year that will have ablility to browse the Internet, play video/music and view photos, along with the usual e-book reading.

The device will be based on the Zii processor platform and will compete with Nook from Barnes & Nobile and Kindle from Amazon. The device will also offer features like touchscreen, text-to-speech and SD card slot. Creative said that the company is in talks with 10 international and local publishers to provide content like fiction, newspapers, magazines and textbooks for the device.

MediaBook’s description given by Creative sounds very similar to the rumored capabilities that Apple’s upcoming tablet will bring to the market. No information about the screen type, launch date or pricing was given.
