Images of Upcoming Dual-GPU ATI Radeon HD 5970 Graphics Card LeakedSubmitted by lalit on November 2, 2009 - 12:09pm.
Alienbabeltech.com has posted images of the upcoming AMD/ATI graphics card that will feature dual-GPU. The website had also posted benchmarks for the new card, but removed them at AMD’s request. AMD will stop using the X2 nomenclature for upcoming dual GPU cards. The card that was supposed to be HD 5870 X2 will be called HD 5970 and the slightly lower powered HD 5850 X2 will be called HD 5950. The website’s source said ATI is pretty confident that they will win this round of the GPU war with NVIDIA's Fermi architecture, as the company has something special (upcoming 5970 and 5950) up their sleeve. The new cards are 13.5-inch long and had problem fitting in a full sized tower case like the Antec 1200. The power hungry cards uses one 8-pin and one 6-pin connector for power. It is believed that length of the cards will be slightly decreased when they are officially launched, as the card show in the image above was an engineering sample. However, power requirement will remain the same. Even though the card was an early engineering sample the website said that the performance was better than any graphics card available today and it will only improve when the card is launched with official drivers.
