Toshiba Unveils 320GB 1.8-inch Hard DriveSubmitted by lalit on November 5, 2009 - 6:51pm.
Toshiba has unveiled five new 1.8-inch hard drives ranging in capacity from 120GB to 320GB. The MKxx33GSG series features the first 1.8-inch 320GB hard drive ever released. The same hard drives are also available in 250GB and 160GB capacities. The MKxx33GSG series hard drives have 16MB of cache buffer, 5,400 RPM spindle speed and data transfer rate of up to 830 Mb/s. Along with the faster MKxx33GSG series, Toshiba also released slower MK1235GSL and MK1214GAH hard drives with 120GB capacity, 4,200 RPM disc speed and 16MB of cache. The difference between the two hard drives is that the 5mm thick MK1235GSL is more power efficient that the 8mm thick MK1214GAH. Toshiba says that their new 1.8-inch drives surpass the shock and vibration resistance of their 2.5-inch hard drives. The new drives can handle operational shock up to 500Gs and non-operational shock up to 1,500Gs, marking a 25 percent and 50 percent improvement over 2.5-inch hard drive. The new 1.8-inch hard drives are available now.
