While ARM’s latest Cortex A9 processors have still not reached the mass market, the company has already started development of next generation of ARM processor. During a tour presentation at Globalfoundries fab, president of ARM, Tudor Brown, revealed that next gen ARM chip codenamed “Eagle” would be launched in 2013 and it will feature high-end graphics engine, multicore architecture with support for more than four cores and increased hardware security. Initially, the Eagle processors will be manufactured using 28nm process technology, but production will move to 22nm very soon after release. Products based on the new processors should come to the market by late 2013 or early 2014. Tudor didn’t give any other information about the next generation Eagle processors. But it is believed that Globalfoundries will be one of the main partners in development on the new processor.
